Well, I wanted to name this blog Strictly Vegetarian, but unfortunately that was taken. I am starting this this to try and help out vegetarians who are trying to survive in a meat-based world. I will include many standard recipes that have a vegetarian--and much healthier--twist. Unfortunately, I am not a vegan (yet) so most recipes will include some dairy element.
Let me pose a question--would you go kill a hundred cows for one burger? That is what you're eating your burgers now. If you think your ground beef consists of one cow, you're in denial. It seems so simple--you can buy it for a dollar at any fast food joint--but hundreds of lives are lost, and endless suffering happens as a result. Is your stomach being full a good justification for death, when there are countless other food items you could fill it with?
In our culture, we are taught that meat is a necessity for life. It's served with almost every meal without question. When we come to an age when we ask ourselves what meat is made of, most parents shoot the question down. "It's just food" they might say, when in reality, shouldn't you be questioning what it is you're eating? Childhood is the most innocent of all times, and if you found yourself asking why we eat animals when you were a kid, you should continue to ask that now.
You are meat.
I am meat.
Please do not eat me.
